The Plague

May 2nd, 1350. Today, silence fell upon Vipenbourg. It feels like our town has turned into a ghost town after being quite alive for so many years. Nobody leaves home anymore and birds left the town to leave us with nothing but a heavy silence. We are not even sure how many of us are still alive.

I was looking at one of our windows because there was nothing else to do. I could view the church and its graveyard: it was waiting for us to come. We barricaded ourselves in our home with planks of wood, but we are so poor we did not have enough wood left to cover this window. We can’t stay here.

My son, Rob, and his future wife, Stephanie, were just given clothes by Gina, my wife. “Cover as many parts of your body as you can”, she said. I turned around and took one of these long robes she made. We quickly wore our robes, put our hood on, and left home by the window, one at a time.

As soon as we were out, we were terrified. Our son and daughter-in-law were crying while following us as we ran through the graveyard of the Church. All of a sudden, Gina tripped off. We all screamed at her to get up as we were helping her to get back on her feet. “Shhh!” she insisted. We were almost at the door when it opened itself in front of us. We stared at the door, petrified and wondering who that was going to be.

After all, it was just Boo, the priest. He told us to get in immediately. Once we entered, he looked one more time outside and then slammed the door. “Take a seat.” he said as we took our hoods off. He walked to the front and we sat somewhere in the church. There were very few people, and most of them were strangers. They all looked scared and terrified: they were not even looking up, only looking at their knees as if they had lost a loved one. Boo opened The Bible and started reading. All we could hear was his voice resonating.

“The Lord will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation… which will plague you until you perish. Deuteronomy 28:22”. He closed his book and everyone closed their eyes to pray in their head. “Please, Lord, let my family survive this plague” I thought.

Eventually, Boo cut the endless minute of silence. “This plague is killing all of us one at a time. We need to work together to put an end to it.” It’s at that moment I stood up. Everyone looked at me wondering what I had to say. “The source of the plague comes from Queen Brenda. She is the source of the infection, and the refusal from the population to kill her is what spread the Pandemic. It is more than a simple pandemic; those who are infected become stupid, contagious, stronger than usual and dangerous. They lose all kind of intelligence and kill everyone on their way. They want to eat their brain!” Everyone gasped and put their hand on their mouth.

Gina slaps her forehead and Rob stands up. “I agree!” Stephanie immediately stood up as well. “I agree!” she yelled. A stranger, with red hair and glasses also stood up. “I agree!” We all looked at him wondering who he could be. “My name is Rafe for those who don’t know me.” Gina shook her head as disagreement and she stood up, but not for the same convictions.

“The source are the rats, it has nothing to do with a diabolic force possessing Queen Brenda! This is completely absurd!” All those who seemed undecided on what theory to believe looked at Boo. He raised his hands in the air as if he was speaking to God. “What do we have to lose? Let’s kill Queen Brenda!” The crowd started shouting “DEAD TO BRENDA!” “DEAD TO BRENDA!”

On their way out of the Church, everyone picked either a fork or a torch. Boo kicked the entrance door, letting everyone exit the church in fury in the darkness of the night. I was holding a fork while my wife held a torch so we could see. We were a dozen of people plus the priest walking towards the castle of Queen Brenda. To get there, we had to cross the crop fields first.

We were already arrived in the Crop fields where we had to put out our fire. Burning the crop field would be dangerous for the whole group, wouldn’t it be? But without fire we can’t see anything! Whatever, the castle is not that far anyways.

So far, all we could hear was the grass cracking to our footsteps. Crouch! Crouch! Crouch! I felt like we heard this sound forever. At one point, we could hear something coming our way. Crouch! Crouch! Crouch! We all stopped moving, and at every sound of footstep, my heart just stopped. It was coming our way very fast.

A woman with long brown and curly hair showed up. Her skin was white and disgusting like a leper. Her eyes were… missing! She was rushing in our direction screaming unintelligible words! We were hitting her with our forks with as much strength as we could and it spread lot of blood. I recognize her! That’s our neighbor, Corinne! I couldn’t believe we just killed her. But she was infected, there was no other way.

Wait a minute? How come did we see the whole scene? I and the rest of the group turned around and looked at Boo. He had his torch lit. “Idiot, put out that fire! We are in a crop field, you moron, you’ll kill all of us!” I yelled. Rob took his torch off his hands and put the fire out. Gina frowned at him and continued her way with our group.

The crop field was larger than we thought: we walked for so long that the sun has begun rising. On our way, we had to kill many more zombies. But we lost a lot of people too… we were down to myself, Rob, Gina, Stephanie, Rafe, and the priest, Boo. Right next to us was a cadaver getting eaten by a bunch of vultures. I could not even look at it. “Right there! Queen Brenda’s Castle! We arrived!” shouted Rafe.

We entered the castle by a secret entrance. It was pretty easy and it is now unguarded. There was no one in the corridors. We could only hear ourselves walking, and sometimes Boo was scratching the wall with his fork… We ended up taking the fork away from him before he warns all the zombies about our presence.

It was really scary: there were plenty of cadavers, bones, blood and organs on the stone floors, as if a battle had taken place last night. Rafe stopped in front of a large door. “The Throne room is right in front of us, guys.” We all contemplated the door and put our forces together to make it open despite the locks. It yielded to our strength and we entered the throne room.

There was a woman sitting on the throne. She was obviously a zombie, with her disgusting skin and scars. We all recognized her because of her Asian eyes: She was Brenda. She looked very calm and that surprised her. She was just staring at us while not moving at all. She looked at Rafe and with her finger, she indicated to him to come to her.

Trembling of fear, Rafe started walking towards her. I was looking at the scene unsure of what was about to go down. He made one step at a time, getting closer and closer to her, who was just sitting on her throne, asking him to come to her calmly. Very uncommon for a zombie, but I thought maybe because it is Brenda it is just different.

When Rafe got close enough to Brenda, she jumped on his throat and bited him at the jugular. It happened so fast we did not even have time to save him! He was already dead, laying on the floor, and Brenda turned around and smiled at us with blood and ligaments between her teeth. She growled and ran towards us.

Just because she is the Queen doesn’t make any stronger than the other zombies: We hit her with our forks until she lies on the ground. Before she dies, she made a sign with her finger to Stephanie asking her to come to her. “I promise!” whispered Brenda. “Comeee” she said, before dying for good.

Boo took the Bible from his pocket, opened at one of the pages and started reading while putting his hand above Brenda’s body. “Tabula Rasa Per Capitar Non Sequitir. Et Cetra!” Boo was repeating this Latin phrase over and over. Gina stepped back and looked at me in the eyes. She looked afraid and I wondered why. Rob and Stephanie were innocently listening to Boo and looking at Brenda’s body. Sometimes a hand or a foot was moving, which scared them a little bit. But Boo reassured them it was normal.

Gina put her mouth closer to my ear and whispered something to me. “Be careful. I know what this means in Latin, he is trying to get Brenda back to life… And I think he was bitten by Corinne in the crop field you remember?” Suddenly, I had a flashback of Boo getting bitten by Corinne during the crop field battle.

We looked at Boo again, and we could see his skin was whiter than normal. This whole time we thought it had to do with the lighting of the castle. But no! He’s a zombie! Just like Brenda! And he’s trying to get her back to life! Me and Gina both picked a sword somewhere on the wall and we slowly walked towards Boo’s back. As soon as we were right behind him, we stabbed him.

He did not even have the time to get any reaction that he fell right onto Brenda’s corpse. Rob and Stephanie, realizing what just happened, joined us and we sat in the corner of the room, glad this is all over. We made sure we had no scars, no wounds, nothing that could infect us, and we were in perfect shape.

After a few minutes had passed, three strange people appeared in the middle of the Throne Room. All four of us looked at each other, puzzled. They really did not look like us. They seemed confused as well.

“Wrong place again…” said the woman, “Oubliettes!” she finished. I forgot everything now. What am I doing here? The young man with red hair then said “Zombificatum!” and pointed at Rob with his wand. He laughed outloud and the woman looked angry. “RON!” she yelled. “What? They’re just muggles…” She slapped him in the face and the young guy with glasses looked at them. “Guys! We have to go! NOW!” All three of them ran away and disappeared.

Rob was looking at our heads with a livid expression. He was dribbling and Gina did a gross face. She whispered. “This is not over…” I looked at her and nodded with my head. Not too sure anymore what she’s talking about though.

All players being asians! Each would play as one of the asian past nations.

Challenges could be based off the Art of War.

But because the world and nations of China has changed so often, there would be constant chances to mutiny until the real merge! But Mutiny must happen after tribal, before the next challenge begins.

One Challenge could be the collect of as many rice as possible as a tribe! Let's say there's 8 people participating in each tribe.

In the challenge thread, there are this many rice available:

Red Rice: 200
Blue Rice: 200
Yellow Rice: 200
White Rice: 200
Black Rice: 200

Each minute, you can individually collect one of these 5 categories of rice, and you update with example, 199 red rice remaining and add it to your tribe's total! However, each rice has an effect.

White Rice has no effect, you can collect as many as you want, no consequences, no big deal.

The person from each tribe who collected the most black rice for their tribe will find themselves with an extra vote at their next tribal!

When you collect a red rice, however, you cannot post for the next 5 minutes!

When you collect a yellow rice, you must go on the donate-rice-website, and you must donate at least 500 grains of rice and post a screenshot with the date and time + your aim.

When you collect a blue rice, anyone from the other tribe(s) can post, at the same minute you posted your blue rice, post: *steals 10 *color* grain of rices from *tribe*. So if you want to collect a blue rice, you must make sure it's at the end of the minute without letting the other tribe capture your rice. You CANNOT collect blue rice if you don't have more than at least 10 grain of rices from one color.

At the end of 24 hours, the tribe to have gathered the most rice wins!
